3.1 Hostile Origins of aMule
aMule started as a gut reaction to the xMule developers not putting Colin St?phane's fairly trivial XML patch for a "hyper ed2k link bar" in the stable (and most popular) branch of xMule. Unwilling or unable to wait a few days for the next unstable release, much less a few months for the unstable branch to be upgraded to stable, Creiteil founded aMule on a day rife with problems for xMule, thus unfortunately setting the stage for future hostile relationships. The day was 22 August 2003, the day I was secretly subpoenad in regards to my development of xMule [slashdot article].
3.2 Wide-spread anti-xMule Propaganda
Regrettably, there is a strong bias specifically against xMule in general and myself in particular on many public sites where xMule is publically mentioned; even on listservs, blogs and forums. There is much stronger anti-xMule|HopeSeekr bias (and a reciprocal pro-aMule bias by the same people) than there is the other way around. In a great many cases, there will be a 1:1 correlation between baseless negative xMule comments and positive aMule comments, by the same people using different computers and IP addresses in order to effectively vote/comment two, three, sometimes four times; in order to disproportionately skew apparent public sentiment against xMule and for aMule. For example:
xMule's GNOME Files' Page
xMule's Freshmeat Page
On amule.org, I have posted roughly 8 messages in the last year (98% of aMule's existence), 2 of which are probably classified as reactionary flames, three as peace attempts. On xmule's website, the main aMule developers Kry and deltaHF use a variety of monikers, IP addresses, and accounts to flame both xMule in general and my morality in particular. Under the guises of OldFellow, Nicely, and about 20 other aliases, they have forced me (for my peace of mind if nothing else) to disable most public aspects of xMule.ws, including anonymous article comments and even the forums themselves.
3.3 Vicious ad hominems against HopeSeekr
All together, Kry, deltaHF, and an assortment of hostile aMule users and minor developers have posted roughly 400 flames on xMule servers, and probably another 200 elsewhere on the Internet, mostly in an attempt to disillusion xMule users and thus gain their loyalties.
For example:
[lousy human] http://www.xmule.ws/phpnuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=88
[idiot] http://www.xmule.ws/phpnuke/modules.php?name=News&file=comments&sid=91&pid=0&mode=&order=&thold=
[liar] http://www.xmule.ws/phpnuke/modules.php?name=News&file=article&thold=-1&mode=flat&order=0&sid=94#418
[list] http://www.xmule.ws/phpnuke/modules.php?name=Your_Account&op=userinfo&username=Nicely
Make no mistake: These are direct, hostile and unprovoked flames against my personal being, not based upon code integrity but purely vociferous ad hominem attacks. And in the end, all they do is publically excoriate *me* for "not leaving them alone" in the rare cases that I publically call one of them out for such immature and nasty behaviorisms. Additionally, while to the fullness of my knowledge amule.org does not have any problems with xMule-oriented flames, xMule.ws is so routinely besieged by anti-xMule|pro-aMule rhethoric by historically the same small group of people that both anonymous blog postings and the forum itself have had to be disabled. Flamers only flame to entice others to hate me, so with no public interface the entire atmosphere around xmule.ws is positive for the first time in over a year.
