In order to keep our prestigious hosting service at Gna! (e.g. FSF France), we need to get the headers of every file up to date with regards to the new website and my new GPG signature, and everything. Here's how you can help...
Copyright attribution and licensing information available for each file is very important to Gna, our primary hosts. As such, the headers of our files *must* contain the following:
// This file is a part of the xMule Project.
//
// Copyright (c) 2004 Name of Major Holder (email address / website)
// IMPORTANT - Major Holder's GPG Key's Fingerprint, as maintained by the FSF
//
// Copyright (c) 2004 Name of Minor Holder (email address / website)
// GPG Fingerprint, if known
//
// Derivation Copyrights -- Authors and their Projects which any particular code
// is derived from
//
// Copy of the License Header block
Now, over the past few months, this header has been thrown in to a state of disheveledness, primarily because of the change from xmule.org to xmule.hopto.org and finally to xmule.ws.
In *every* source file, you need to replace
// Copyright (c) 2004 Theodore R. Smith (donate@xmule.org / http://xmule.hopto.org/)
// RSA-1024 Fingerprint: 4145 9DFD 5338 4FCC 1636 86E5 2E5A 42D8 BA13 460B
with my new official Copyright header:
// Copyright (c) 2004 Theodore R. Smith (hopeseekr@xmule.ws / http://www.xmule.ws/)
// DSA-1024 Fingerpring: 10A0 6372 9092 85A2 BB7F 907B CB8B 654B E33B F1ED
You also need to add
// Copyright (c) 2004 Franz Schneider (sf -at- fsch -dot- net / http://www.xmule.ws/)
to the Copyright Holder in NewSockets.* NewFunctions.* and SearchDlg.*
Finally, as you read the License Blocks you will see unsightful things like:
//You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License
//along with this program; if not, write to the Free Software
//Foundation, Inc., 675 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA.
This needs to be changed to
// You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License
// along with this program; if not, write to the Free Software
// Foundation, Inc., 675 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA.
In other words, all // should have a " " after them.
The easiest way to submit work to me is to first check out a copy of xMule from our sourcecode repository. See the CVS Tutorial for more instructions. When you have completed formatting any number of files, simply do a
$ cvs diff -u > format.patch
and send that patch to me, preferably via email.
Since these are comment-only modifications, by doing these tasks you are implicitly agreeing to waive your right to Minor Copyright holder of any particular file that you modify.
Even one file would be greatly appreciated. I will be more than helpful if you stop by #xmule on Undernet or email me, in case you need/want it.
