xMule Tutorials: I quit! YAY~!!!!

i quit at xmule *please* read below :-(

[00:01:26] aprilfool: you and your friends from amule have won ! [00:01:30] aprilfool, what the fuck is your business?! [00:01:39] HopeSeekr: quits developing xmule [00:01:41] i am [00:01:43] i have [00:01:58] i can't stand this shit [00:02:00] it ruins my life [00:02:02] literally The only real way to get rid of an opensource project that competes against you is to break the heart of that project's main developer. aMule devs *and* users have admirably done this. Ya, i can't stand this shit. aMule people have "won". I am tired of being ceaselessly and mercilessly defamed by them :-( You guys that are still here, you either are dirt poor or don't relaly give a shit either, cuz we get no support. I am too mentally unstable (read: chronically depressed) and have gone through way too much in the last 3 months (jail, losing the love of my life, watching xmule die, losing my job, losing my house, losing all my money) to keep up with their incessant attacks, and the fact that users continaully support htem far more in spite. xMule.org will expire on May 23 and i have no plans to renew it....funny how it has been just over a year since i started at LMule. Thanks to the wonderful people in #xmule i've managed to keep up my spirits daily against these aMule capers, but no more, i'm tired, broke, and you definately do not support it (their forums are more active in 3 months than xmule's in a year, for instance). I know Avi in particular will be disappointed at this, but he and every one in #xmule will realize how much these constant wars with aMule hurt me physically emotionally and spiritually. I have attempted to make peace with them 6 times in the past...each time different amule users flame me saying how they 'hate' me when i don't even know who they are. I didn't start this to be hated :-( so i'm no longer going to develop xmule, i might still help outin the forums, but face it, they're dead. aMule's 3month-old forums (which look a lot worse than xmule's) have more posts than xMule's 11 month-old ones. That means they should be an exmplae for you. 1.8.0 is the most stable ed2k client i have ever used. You really should try it :-( Hopefully upload will release it later this week. Avi, i'm sorry for doing this before you left :-( You were the only one to ever support me in aMule forums...I appreciate that more than you'll ever know. ::cries:: I can personally say i would rather be behind bars right now than have to continue dealing with Kry and watching users love him. If you support aMule you supoprt companies that make cheap products via sweatshops (e.g. you don't care how they get thier code or how they hurt others to get it). I spent over $900 of my own money on xMule over the last year. Fortunately $300 in donations came in in the month of September. Thanks for that :-) but xmule is clearly a loser on all fronts for me, so i'm out. sincerely,
un-thesis PS. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE all comments *here*...I willl not read amule.org at all, so i want *all* flames here. Nothing will be censored, or deleted, you have my word. Now's your final chance to gloat over my demise :-)

Diablos ...............

good bye xmule

I really don't know the history of xmule/amule life and their devs relations (and DO NOT want to learn them either) but I really do feel sorry that the relations between the devs of 2 competitive projects like xmule & amule became like "that".

I still thinks that having two competitors even in open source softwares is a good thing because it creates some emulation between the devs and that's good for both...

I don't know what to say... :-(
I've started using xMule less than a month ago and I simply love it. And yes, I did try aMule and didn't like it, not even a tiny bit.

I too don't understand their popularity... Not even considering their code stealing (I don't know much about that) and personal behavior (constant trolling), aMule isn't better than xMule in ANY aspect, to most users they're almost identical (hmm, let me guess why...). As I said I very much prefer xMule.

I can't blame you HopeSeekr for your decision... So many obstacles - another person would quit long ago :(

Unfortunatelly I can't support xMule financially :( I'm struggling to pay for my studies and don't have a job yet :(

I study informatics and I was thinking about trying to help developing xMule but after a brief glance at the code I pretty much got discouraged :( I'm not very good at Object Oriented Programming and I will have to work on it.

I really hope that you'll get better HopeSeekr and that xMule isn't condemned for death :(

Best regards,

Crocodil.

why you said amule team won?

i don't agree. opensource lost today. when a project dies, community lose a project.
The reality is that xmule has not be updated (fro really..) for lots of time. Probably you cared too much amule businness and lost so much time talkining about it instead of coding.

but...today amule has not won.
i'm sad cause the competition with xmule has been very interesting. I would have seen a more polite competition...yes..

not blaming and flaming.
Only clients competition.
However lots of users still use xmule, instead of the *victorius* amule.

I'm sorry to hear that you have decided to stop working on xMule, as I personally believe that both projects (xMule and aMule) could have gained a lot from competing against each other and through that, the users would have gained. But hopefully the xMule project won't fade in your absence, something which I'm sure that the remaining devs will work to avoid.

It is also sad to see how much grief the bad blood between the two projects have caused on both sides of the fence, now with your resignation as a result... Still, I wish you good luck in the future, both offline and online.

Hi. First I'd like to say that unfortunantly I am in no position to help you. I study computers in an university (I can't donate money because I'm from Portugal. Try reading a bit of this country and you'll know what I'm talking about) and I know how to program but I only know those basic thing like making loops and reading/writing on files and stuff. If I could, it would be an honour to participate in a project like xMule because it's something that everybody uses. Second, if there are people using xMule it's because they like it, therefore, to them its better then aMule. Third, are they steeling your code? Well, you can't do anything about it because it's open source but the best way to prove that you are stronger then they are is to continue writing and improving xMule. You are one, they are many. Steel their code too. Fourth, the best way to attack is to get a good defence. Stop saying that aMule team is this or that. If someone asks, say that they are good. But prove through actions that you can be better or not. Fifth, don't ever, ever put xMule over your personal life. Think of it as a hobby. Try to get your life in a stable position and then start xMule. Sixth, don't do more than you can. You need a better server, right? Well, if you can't get one, too bad for us. Don't harm yourself because of us. Seventh, tell me how to get material to learn programming things like xMule and you'll have my full support to develop it.
Take some vacations but, don't give up...
Sorry for my bad english...

When I started working on xMule, we had a great comunity. Now, on aMule, we have an even bigger and nice team and users supporting. But, in any way, it's of course bad to lose an opensource project.

It's your decision and, yes, it would be bether for your health, you need a break from all this, ted, really.

A proof of that is you can't stop flaming about aMule even on that post. Saying we copy code( we do not, xMule code has the same (c) than when forked, and no single bit of code from xMle since I'm there), saying you took code from amule giving credit to it (which is FALSE, because all the endian code to work on Mac is taken from amule and not a single bit of code has credit given to aMule and the notebooks, which made us able to get rid of pure GTK code, have my (c) but you removed the (c) aMule Team).

We have not won neither we had defamed you except when you do like this: posting shit about aMule at ANY chance, even now. You insult amule, you insult amule developers, and you lie about xMule and aMule. You even flame about the look of the forums/webpage!!

You didn't try to make peace with aMule 6 times: you roughtly came to tell us how stupid we are, and that we should let you do the core and we can stick to the GUI. A team of 20 people developing a GUI while you do the core. There's even a poll on that were aMule devs and users told you... well, to leave us alone.

And that's what we were requesting for MONTHS. To leave us alone, ted PLEASE. on #wxwidgets (former #wxwindows), everytime you join... flame aMule and me. on #amule, you joined, changed topic do assholes, insulted us... etc. on our forums, you also insult us. On the SF support requests where you have NOTHING to do, you insult us. on your forum, you first moderate us so we cannot reply, and then lie about us. On your changelogs, you insult us.

so, do as you like with xMule development. but LEAVE US ALONE, PLEASE.

Hell, this whole thing is a soap opera. It's like two gangs are figting over a f.cking apple in an apple forest. I don't really care who is responsible for steeling code. These are GPL projects. The whole purpose to make things better.

Development was supposed to be fun. Grow up and get over with your egos, both side! Competition is always good, if both side quits being nasty kids. I don't really blame anybody specific. I blame *every* single developer who is flaming and who is just keeping silent about this fuss. There should be somebody with some sense!

It is always hard to see whos fault it is, as there is always two sides of the story. And it doesn't matter in the end if you have a good project. If ppl don't use yours, make it better.

HopeSeekr it is your life and it is your decision. But in the end we all loose if you quit. You should appreciate some other group is developing based on your code. But a suggestion, if you want to continue just stop wasing time on flaming. It really doesn't matter what you say, or do. Just prove that xMule is better by making it better. And don't forget, ppl don't like flaming guys. And stop asking money everytime. Let the ppl decide.

I'm sorry to read that it has gone that far (again).

Well, sometimes things like this happen. Nobody likes to get insulted and flamed by others, especially not devs about code.

Hopefully, the other devs, admins, moderators and users of the xmule project will carry on developing and supporting the client as there seems to have been some major improvements in the last months.

It would be a unfortunate lost to the community if they won't.

And if it's true that time heals wounds, both projects might be able to open their CVS, again, some day. A friendly and respectful competition has always been the best for Free Software.

Ted, you hopefully find a way to master your personality one day to be able to join a community peacefully even if not everybody shares your opinion. Nobody can be expected to do everything equally well, and I think the community regards your efforts for xmule and your coding abilities.

I started out on eMule for Windows - nice client and vastly better than the original eDonkey rubbish. But as I was always wishing to move towards the Linux side of things, I wanted, obviously, a Linux client. I was fortunate and lucky enough to discover xMule.

I had heard stuff about lMule, but seem to recall just having problems getting it to compile. xMule worked. It was good. I was happy. I downloaded a lot of shit.

And then I bought a Mac, which seems reasonable enough, and, better still, the Mac, according to xMule's very logo, is supported. Would it compile? Would it fuck.

At this point, some might point out that I should bloody well fix it myself - I must apologise, but I am one of those types that coders find incredibly annoying - a "user." Believe me, if I could code, I would be pitching in.

And not too much later, we get all this melodromatic crap from unThesis. First time it may have been valid, if a little over the top, but it was far too theatrical. Dude, if you really are considering a career move, try the stage - you are either totally insane or just have an arty mind (I hope the latter).

But damnit, xMule returns, still with the Apple in the xMule logo and still not working. I start to see flames about how this aMule client is so shit and how they steal so much code. You know what? I decided to give it a go. Last time I tried, it didn't work. But this time, after Stage Exit II, I am determined to make it work. From the comments, it seems plain that the aMule lot merely got a clue - they were just trying to escape a crazy and perhaps half-assed coder who, to be frank, needs to grow up.

I'm sorry to rant, but it's childish pettiness that really damages the reputation of open source. Leave the coding world be, dear - you belong somewhere else.

I think HopeSeekr, you should first live _your life_ and make sure that everything in your life and with your friends and family is okay and then, if everything is okay, you can spend left-over time on opensource projects. I feel you have not done that and everybody really should do that. Real life before life online. Humans are social beings, we need friends and family and company.
