xMule xMule 1.9.5 released!
Posted by HopeSeekr on Thursday, January 06 @ 15:21:23 CST
Contributed by HopeSeekr

Over three months were spent making this release one of the best ever. As evinced by the lack of bug reports for the 4th preview of this release, this should be one of the most productive versions of xMule yet, both in terms of added features, large performance increases, and the refactoring of the source code in general. You'll want to see the changelog for this :-) xmule-1.9.5.rar (1.07 MB) [WWW] [ED2K Link]--> xmule-1.9.5.tar.bz2 (1.19 MB) [WWW] [ED2K Link]--> Highly-optimized Linux binary (1.61 MB) [WWW] Req. wxGTK 2.4 w/ GTK2

Version 1.9.5 ------------- 2005/01/06 HopeSeekr's contributions: * FIXED: Internationalization works again, yay (01-05). * FIXED: Huge increase in CPartFile::Process(): used to use 44% of total xMule CPU usage, now requires ~1% (01-01). * FIXED: Major residual memory leak in the credits system (12-23). * FIXED: xMule should now compile on RedHat boxes without modification. * FIXED: Properly delete socket handlers (11-04). * FIXED: Command-line interface is now functional again (11-04). * FIXED: Removed a memory leak when canceling/stopping downloads (01-05). * FIXED: *MAJOR* CPU leak after 24 hours that occurred in the SysTray; see ChangeLog-UNSTABLE entry for 02-08-03 (01-05). * IMPROVED: Source code dependency tracking (11-04). * IMPROVED: Source code coupling - 59 files optimal (11-04, 5, 6, 7). * IMPROVED: Credits system is now dynamically sized and freed (01-04). * IMPROVED: Re-implemented Download List's event handling routines (01-04). * IMPROVED: Re-implemented Category's event handling routines (01-05). * IMPROVED: Almost totally re-implemented ed2k external helper; now supports all types of ed2k links, including those with sources. On installation, it is installed as both "ed2k" (deprecated) and "ed2k.xmule-2.0" (01-06). * IMPROVED: Re-arranged the Preferences toolbar for greater clarity (01-06). * ADDED: External libcrypto++ support (01-03). * Misc: * Now xMule uses the ISO-C++ standard number types instead of a mix of do you notice problem with finishing? its own and wxWidget's (11-04). * Refactored and unicoded Categories (11-07). * Upgraded wxWidget's animate.cpp from v2.3.2 to 2.5.3 (11-08). * Refactored many maps to std::maps for large performance gangs (01-01) DavidW's contributions: * Provided the new configure.ac configuration (10-21). * Added routines for detecting libcrypto++ (01-05). pbrook's contributions: * FIXED: Three crashes on shutdown (01-03). * FIXED: Several post-increment discrepancies (01-03). * FIXED: Floating-point Error found in 1.9.5pre2 and above (01-03). * FIXED: 1.9.5pre3 bug that hindered secure ident (01-03). Debian Team's contributions: * FIXED: Some crashes due to big endian routines of embedded Crypto++ (11-06). Xaignar's contributions: * Pointed out a small bug at BaseClient.cpp:264 (11-03).

I do not think you, Kry of aMule, should so much as look at xMule's changelog, although I have little doubt you've already analyzed indepthly *every* change to see what you can steal.

NEedless, this is by far the most minor of all the changes noted.

*SIGH*

Not a single line of code was from xmule to aMule except 2 memleaks that were anyway wrong. And you know it.

I just posted it so you could correct the Changelog, because you slipped a line in the middle of a changelog, a line that didn't belong there. You're a such paranoid mad guy you saw it as some kind of attack.

FYI, xMule 1.9.5 doesn't compile at all. Welcome to the greatness of this release.

Anyway! Is the banning of aMule clients fiexd? I want to know it so I can take actions if aMule clients are still banend, like getting you banned from other clients, which I don't think you want at all, being completely minoritary on network.

forget.. i tried twice, to put the result of diff.. but it appears that brackets don't work here, although in preview they can be seen.

well.. anyone can see by own the result of 'diff src/xmule.make ../xmule-1.9.4b/src/xmule.make' and obtain the conclusion that in lines 21, 26 and 31, there is a "-l" at the final of the line, that those not appear in xmule-1.9.4b

i simple remove them.. and compiled xmule with no more erros.

Hey, just a heads-up.
You seem to have forgotten to fix the two bugs I pointed out:
- ListenSocket.cpp:580 (Banning everyone sending messages to you)
- UploadQueue.cpp:251 (Marking aMule clients in the upload-queue as leechers)

Anyway, nice release.

Cheers,

ListenSocket.cpp:580 if (strstr(message, "chez.com/theworld") == 0 || strstr(message, "fullspeed.to/mison") == 0)

If the string "chez.com/theworld" is not found inside of message, the returned string is NULL (aka 0) so this function does not, in fact, ban clients.

--------------

I still haven't (can't) verify the other one. As I mentioned on the aMule forums, I do not have access to either amule source nor binary and thus require another person with these to work with me in both verifying and isolating this bug (E.g. just try to download files from me via amule).

I take the lack of mail in my inbox as a sign that this really isn't a concern of any one, thus it's not my concern either.

Ted, I posted to you the reason of the bug on YOUR client that is banning aMule. You have to include SO_AMULE into the test for mod_tag sends, or you will ban them all. You don't need an aMule to test if you can read at least 1 line of code.

I'm getting pretty angry with this. Anyway, that line is plain wrong, network speaking, because restricts the hability to send mod tags to eMule and xmule, so you're efectively banning mldonkeys, edonkeys, lphans and eMule+ clients sending a MOD tag.

Grow up and fix it NOW.

I disagree with your assertion about the if construct works as intended. "strstr" does indeed return NULL if the string is not found, in which case the "== 0" test will evaluate to true and the if-block will be executed. In other words, it will evaluate to true as long as the contain neither of the SPAM-strings. The block of the if-construct consists of the following:

if (client)
{
client->Ban();
client->thief = true;
}
theApp.xmuledlg->AddLogLine(false, "The spammer '%s' [%s:%i] using %s has just been banished",
client->GetUserName(), client->GetFullIP(), client->GetUserPort(), client->GetClientVerString() .c_str());

Whoops, that was me. Didn't notice that I had been logged out.

You can verify the behavior I'm describing with this simple test program:

#include

bool check( const char* str )
{
return ( strstr( str, "chez.com/theworld") == 0 || strstr( str, "fullspeed.to/mison") == 0);
}

int main()
{
const char* str1 = "some random message";
const char* str2 = "another message plus spam A: chez.com/theworld";
const char* str3 = "another message plus spam B: fullspeed.to/mison";
const char* str4 = "Spam A (chez.com/theworld) and B (fullspeed.to/mison)";

std::cout

The output is as follows:

1 - some random message
1 - another message plus spam A: chez.com/theworld
1 - another message plus spam B: fullspeed.to/mison
0 - Spam A (chez.com/theworld) and B (fullspeed.to/mison)

If not, you have a faulty download and should try to get it again.

If you do have that line, then you have a real bug that needs to be fixed. If this is the case, the quickest way for you to personally solve it would be to install libcrypto++ (and libcrypto++-devel if your distribution has it) and then recompile xmule.

OK. I have the line "#if !HAVE_CRYPTOPP" and I have freshly made and installed libcryptopp 5.2.1 into /usr/local/lib (which is in my LD_LIBRARY_PATH) as libcryptopp.a and libcrypto++.a (++ is symlinked to pp)

I still get ld errors on libcryptopp, and grepping the source code for libcryptopp gets me only declarations for the offending items, not definitions.

eg:
/usr/local/include/cryptopp/misc.h:280: undefined reference to `CryptoPP::AllocatorWithCleanup::allocate(unsigned, void const*)'

I grepped the source code to libcryptopp for "CryptoPP::AllocatorWithCleanup" and it was only found in the .h files, (and the .o files, strangely enough)

I got the tarball for libcryptopp5.2.1 from http://www.eskimo.com/~weidai/cryptlib.html [www.eskimo.com] .

What's going on? Something's definitely wrong here.

Hi I've got a problem compiling xMule 1.9.5.
I've got installed wxWindows 2.4.2 installed in /usr
and wxWindows 2.5.3 installed in /usr/local.

When I run ./configure --with-wx-config=/usr/local/bin/wx-config --with-wx-prefix=/usr/local/
I get that strange message:
checking for wx-config... /usr/local/bin/wx-config
checking for wxWindows version >= 2.5.3... ls: wx*-2.4-config: No such file or directory
ls: wx*-2.4-config: No such file or directory

Warning: No config found to match: /usr/local/bin/wx-config --prefix=/usr/local/ --static --libs
in /usr/local//lib/wx/config
If you require this configuration, please install the desired
library build. If this is part of an automated configuration
test and no other errors occur, you may safely ignore it.
You may use wx-config --list to see all configs available in
the default prefix.

yes (version 2.5.3)
checking if wxWindows was linked with GTK2... yes

and when I compile it I get this:

Linking xmule
Usage: wx-config [--prefix[=DIR]] [--exec-prefix[=DIR]] [--version] [--release]
[--basename] [--static] [--libs] [--gl-libs]
[--cppflags] [--cflags] [--cxxflags] [--ldflags] [--rezflags]
[--cc] [--cxx] [--ld]
[--inplace]

wx-config returns configuration information about the installed
version of wxWindows. It may be used to query its version and
installation directories and also retrieve the C and C++ compilers
and linker which were used for its building and the corresponding
flags.

The --inplace flag allows wx-config to be used from the wxWindows
build directory and output flags to use the uninstalled version of
the headers and libs in the build directory. (Currently configure
must be invoked via a full path name for this to work correctly.)

I thing wx-config can't handle the option --static

then I compiled xMule and I get this:

I've downloaded the xmule binary from here, so I think I don't need wxGTK-devel or not?

I've downloaded from http://www.wxwindows.org/ the wxGTK-2.4.2-1.i386.rpm and installed as root with "rpm -ivh ..." but no luck!

Still error that I need the wxGTK library so I've added a symbolic link because he asks for this name I think, libwx_gtk2-2.4.so, error message is different now, but again no luck.

It says:
xmule: /usr/bin/libwx_gtk2-2.4.so version 'WXGTK2_2.4' not found (required by xmule)

HELP!!!

The linking problem seems so be within your wxWidgets compiled libs (they refer to a non-existing gtk function).

Hmm, I tried to compile the last CVS snapshot of wxWidgets without sucess ... So I compiled the 2.5.3 version of it ... And xMule still wouldn't compile correctly, then I switch to GCC 3.4.3 [Slackware's testing] and that didn't help ... I tried the 1.8.4 version and finally sucessfully compiled and instaled the 1.9.4 version of xMule ... I mean, I did a lot of work to get to this running, went through a lot of combinations of wxGTK, GCC and xMule versions ... And each 'make' last about 2 hours on my 450MHz computer ... Then I'm really upset, as the only version that I could install correctly on my computer [1.9.4, compiled with wxGTK 2.5.3 with GTK2 suppport on GCC 3.4.3] segfaults as soon as it starts ... Bug: Column Sorting (Score: 0)

Hiya.

I finally got xMule 1.9.5 running, and boy is it taking AGES for sources to connect to me. Meanwhile leaches are happily sucking away :(

Anyway, the columns don't sort properly. When I sort on remaining, I get the following example
10.27 GB
12.3 MB
20.25 MB

For some reason 10.27 GB is LESS than 12.3 MB. Why is this? The column is simply sorting by displayed text, not actual values. It also happens on date columns and anywhere else where a value is interpreted to text.

Fix this please.
